Brewing Guide
Add ½–1 teaspoon of dried Angelica Root to a cup (250ml) of water. Bring gently to a simmer, cover, and allow to steep or simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes. Strain and enjoy warm.
As a root, Angelica benefits from a longer brewing time to release its aromatic and bitter constituents.
Enjoy another infusion: Your herbs can be steeped again 2–3 times. Simply add fresh hot water and allow a little extra brewing time with each infusion.
Blending with Other Herbs
Angelica Root can be enjoyed on its own or combined with other herbs to create a beautifully warming digestive blend. Traditionally, it pairs well with Fennel, Peppermint, Ginger, and Chamomile, bringing together aromatic and gently bitter botanicals commonly used to support digestive comfort and ease after meals.
Its distinctive flavour also makes it a lovely addition to traditional warming herbal preparations.
At The Herbary, we can help you explore herbal combinations suited to your individual wellbeing needs.
A Little Herbal Wisdom
Angelica has a fascinating history in European herbal traditions, where it was regarded as a valuable botanical for digestive wellbeing and general vitality. Its aromatic roots have also been used in traditional herbal preparations and as a flavouring ingredient in culinary bitters and liqueurs.
The name Angelica reflects the plant's rich historical associations, and its distinctive warming fragrance continues to make it a cherished herb in traditional herbal practice.
Please note: Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless advised by a qualified healthcare professional. Angelica may increase sensitivity to sunlight due to naturally occurring furanocoumarins. Use caution with blood-thinning medications and seek professional advice if taking prescribed medicines. People with allergies to plants in the Apiaceae family should also exercise caution. Consult a qualified practitioner before using Angelica for medicinal purposes.
At The Herbary, we believe that everyday wellbeing can be nurtured through simple, natural rituals and the wisdom of traditional herbal practice.
