Astragalus membranaceus

Immune Resilience | Vitality & Restorative Support

Organic Astragalus Root is a gentle yet strengthening herb, traditionally valued for supporting natural immune resilience, vitality, and long-term wellbeing. With a rich history in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Astragalus has been treasured as a restorative botanical, particularly during times of increased demands, fatigue, or recovery when the body may benefit from additional nourishment and support.

Traditionally used to encourage strength, endurance, and the body's natural defences, Astragalus is appreciated for its grounding, nourishing qualities. Its mild, slightly sweet flavour makes it a lovely addition to warming herbal preparations, while its traditional reputation as a restorative tonic makes it a popular choice for those seeking steady, ongoing support for everyday vitality and wellbeing.

  • Supporting strength and endurance during life's demands

Brewing Guide

Add approximately 1–2 teaspoons of dried Astragalus Root to 250–300ml of water. Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and simmer for 20–30 minutes. Strain and enjoy warm.

Astragalus can also be added to soups, broths, and slow-cooked dishes, where its mild, slightly sweet flavour blends beautifully with other ingredients. Remove the root pieces before serving.

Enjoy another infusion: Your roots can be simmered again 2–3 times. Simply add fresh water and allow a little extra brewing time with each preparation. The flavour and strength will gradually become milder.

Blending with Other Herbs

Astragalus Root can be enjoyed on its own or combined with complementary herbs to create a nourishing, restorative herbal blend. Traditionally, it pairs beautifully with herbs such as Reishi, Schisandra, and Licorice Root for vitality, resilience, and general wellbeing.

For a warming herbal preparation, Astragalus may also be combined with Ginger and Cinnamon, creating a comforting, aromatic blend that can be enjoyed as a tea or added to nourishing broths.

At The Herbary, we can help you explore herbal combinations suited to your individual wellbeing needs.

A Little Herbal Wisdom

Astragalus has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where it is known as Huang Qi, often translated as "yellow leader", reflecting its traditional importance as a strengthening herb.

It has long been associated with supporting Qi, or vital energy, and is traditionally used in restorative herbal preparations intended to nourish and strengthen the body over time.

Please note: Seek professional advice before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have an autoimmune condition, take immunosuppressant medication, or are undergoing medical treatment. Astragalus may interact with medicines that affect immune function or blood sugar. If you are unwell with an acute infection or fever, seek individual guidance before using Astragalus as a restorative herb.

At The Herbary, we believe that everyday wellbeing can be nurtured through simple, natural rituals and the wisdom of traditional herbal practice.
